Students often face difficulties in finding the right accommodations as they move abroad for their higher studies. Finding an accommodation is very critical for students who especially on arrival to a new city are oblivious and have no one around. University Living steps in to provide affordable comfortable accommodations and services for students being the go-to place for all their needs. With over 1000 accommodations in every city, students are able to book their choice of space much in advance to their date of arrival.
One of the main challenges was to restructure the website. The website had navigational and hierarchical issues, being the core reason for user drop offs. Secondly, owing to the tremendous increase in mobile phone users, we wanted to capture this aspect and use it to benefit by creating a PWA app as well with the aim of increasing user engagement and retention on the platform.
We redesigned the website to improve the user experience by simplifying the navigation and ensuring a clear hierarchy of information. This was achieved by conducting thorough stakeholder workshops & study of user analytics data, which helped to identify pain points and areas for improvement. We saw an opportunity to capture this segment by creating a progressive web app (PWA). This would allow users to access the platform via their mobile devices, while also providing a seamless and responsive experience. The PWA was designed with a mobile-first approach, prioritizing key features and optimizing the user interface for smaller screens.
