Smart buy - Where deals get better

HDFC Bank is one of the world’s leading banking firms with a successful foundation in India. As of late, they have started venturing into new areas and are moving beyond just banking solutions. HDFC has an online platform called HDFC Smartbuy, to facilitate offers extended by merchants to HDFC Bank's Customers. By offering exclusive benefits and rewards, the platform brings together avenues such as banking, shopping entertainment, payments, travel and much more. However, having said that, the platform’s engagement and impact have not been as successful as originally intended.

The number of digital buyers in Asia Pacific is projected to pass the one billion mark for the first time in 2018, which will account for 60 percent of all internet users in the region.

Problem statement

To redesign the HDFC Smartbuy progressive web app (PWA) and web platform with the aim to provide a one-stop solution for customers daily activities - shopping, entertainment, payments, travel & more. Cataloging all the features that need to be present in the redesign. Tapping the primary use cases and make them as intuitive as possible. Keeping the visual language precise and consistent to make the complex interfaces understandable. Practicing extreme constraint with the following: Typography, Button styles, Navigation patterns, Color choices, Labeling. Translate the HDFC brand feel into Smartbuy platform with elegant solutions.

Customers are enticed by different incentives. Unlike last year, when the promise of deals most drove loyalty, customers today find financial rewards (61%) and programs highly tailored to their needs (58%) much more enticing.

Design solution

We improved the user interface, making it more intuitive and easy to navigate, with clear call-to-action buttons and simplified checkout processes. We also added new features such as personalized recommendations, product reviews, and loyalty programs to enhance the customer experience. Keeping the visual language precise and consistent to make the complex interfaces understandable. Practicing extreme constraint with the following: Typography, Button styles, Navigation patterns, Color choices, Labeling. Translate the HDFC brand feel into SmartBuy platform with elegant solutions. The PWA design also included optimizing the platform for mobile devices, ensuring a seamless experience for users on any device.
